Rosebud #306
In the news today, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have donated $1 million to Iraqi children affected by the Iraq war (via their Jolie-Pitt Foundation). I think that's wonderful. Brad and Angelina are obviously very sweet and generous people.
But why don't they speak out against the war? Everyone watches their every move, listens to everything they say. So why don't they use that platform to blast this blasted war? I know I've said it before, but it's just this: Iraqi kids wouldn't need the help of people like "Brangelina" if the United States hadn't illegally invaded their country and bombed it back to the Stone Age. And now they won't stop needing help until this barbaric war ends, and even thereafter. After her last visit to Iraq, Angelina voiced her belief that the "surge is working," and posed for pictures with General Patreaus. But how can the continuation of this "conflict" possibly help Iraqi kids? Children are always the first casualties of war—they lose their lives, their limbs, their families, food, water, shelter. The "surge is working" is a crock of shit...
Angelina is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, clubhouse for the corporate elite, which I also just don't get. Whenever I can't figure something out, I always try and ask myself: What would Martin Luther King say?
Here is a clip, by the way, of U.S. soldiers taunting and verbally abusing Iraqi children:
