Rosebud #303

Don't want to make too much of this, because ultimately, who care what critics think? It's the fans that matter. But I must pause a head-scratching moment about the reviews of the Alicia Keys show Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. The Times, Daily News, and Post all panned it. Said Alicia couldn't dance like Britney Spears, the crowd was "mute." Excuse me, were we at the same show? The people around me were screaming so loud my ears ached for about four hours afterward. The vibe in the room was pure elation. Alicia is Alicia, and wasn't trying to be Britney or even Janet. I really wonder where all this Alicia-hating is coming from. Could it be, as Hillary has been heard complaining, that men (all the reviewers were men) can't deal with a strong woman? Cause Alicia is S-T-R-O-N-G. At one point she even exhorted the ladies in the audience to get "aggressive." Oh my no, not aggressive women! Or could it be that she's taking a hit for that interview she did a few months back where she said some things about the situation of blacks in America that, well, we just aren't supposed to say in polite company anymore? If you can't deal with Alicia, then you just can't deal with a lot of things; and maybe that was the problem...
