Republicans hate the poor; so why do so many poor people love them?
A guy on HuffPo today explored the conundrum thusly:
"I have tried and tried to understand why in many cases a woman stays with a partner who beats her and keeps her poor and unhappy. The man once in a while promises to be better in the future and says it was her fault, she provoked him. So she rushes back to him, forgives him, and the cycle of beatings repeats.
And in the same way I don't understand why anyone in the bottom 99% of income would vote Republican. The Republicans beat you down, keep you poor, sell you out to big money, tell you it's you own fault for not working hard enough (you are such a whiner!). The stock market does a lot better with Democrats in the White House—the GDP goes up more with Democrats in the White House—and yet so many investors vote Republicans back in (they promise to REFORM, that next time it will be different). Mc Cain talks of HONOR in big capital letters, but he lied and cheated on his first wife when she needed him most—Are you going to trust that guy? Sarah [Palin] tells you she has more experience, but she mishandled being a mayor of a town of 6000 and had to hire a city manager to do her job—is she for real?
Is there a psychologist out there who can explain this? Is it a wish to be unhappy and poor?"
