He did it! Was a great speech. As the gurgly David Gergen said on CNN, "A symphony... A masterpiece." Obama answered all the critics. Showed he's not afraid of a fight. Brought it—and right to John McCain's face. Obama kept it reeeeeal. But what I liked about it best was when he spoke about how we are one, and whatever happens to one of us, happens to all of us. A simple idea; the basis for every religion; and yet something that has been lost in the age of the neo-cons, whose philosophy is exactly the opposite, and the opposite of traditional American ideals. I liked it when he spoke about being the candidate of the future; because the future is multi-cultural—but modernism has always been multi-cultural, the cool has always been multi-cultural, and so a vote for Obama is a vote for the cool (he didn't say this, I'm saying it), in the best sense of the word, it's like voting for Miles Davis or Picasso—for a new kind of candidacy, and yes, a change. I liked it when he talked about how we the people have conjured his candidacy out of thin air—because we need him, because we badly need this change. He spoke of being a product of particular kind of American magic. A post-modern magician, Obama admitted how he did it: by listening, by tapping into what the country truly wants and needs to be. Yes, it was inspiring, moving. Like a great political speech should be. And, like magic, on the anniversary of King's "I Have A Dream" speech...
I have a (renewed) crush on Obama. The next president of the United States.
