Rosebud #330

There was nothing new in the recent report from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) saying that World Trade Tower 7 was destroyed by fire. (See New York Times article here.) They've made this claim before. To anyone familiar with the remaining questions around 9/11, however, this is still no explanation. As videos show, Building 7 was barely on fire—just a few small fires on a few top floors. In audio of firemen on the scene that day, we can hear them expressing their confidence that they’ll be able to get the fires under control. And then at 5: 20 p.m. the building collapsed in its own footprint, looking very much like a controlled demolition. (If it walks like a duck...) (Watch.) NIST admits that this was the first time in history that a steel-frame building collapsed due to fire; excuse me, the third. The first two times being World Trade Center Towers One and Two.

Why NIST—a government-funded agency—chose to re-issue this non-explanation at this particular time remains a mystery, like the destruction of the building itself. The collapse of Building 7 requires a new and independent investigation, as does the entire event of 9/11. That’s what a group of activists led by former Senator Mike Gravel (of the Pentagon Papers fame) are working on right now. It's time. I think it’s the least we can do for the victims of that tragedy: Educate ourselves. Find out what really happened. (9/11 Ballot Initiative web site.)
