A piece on A1 of the Times today on the safety of Barack Obama, datelined Dallas, fails in over 2 pages to mention the security lapse that occurred at an Obama rally last week—in Dallas. See Rosebud #222, below. According to a piece in the Dallas Star-Telegram last Friday, the Security Service ordered local police to stop checking people entering an Obama rally for weapons. The Secret Service later admitted this to be true, meanwhile denying that this posed any problem for security.
Wouldn’t it have made sense for the Times piece about this very issue of Obama’s safety to do some follow-up questions? Illustrated by a picture of Mr. Obama surrounded by Secret Servicemen, the Times says, “Mr. Obama has had Secret Service agents surrounding him since May 3… As his rallies have swelled in size, his security has increased, coming close to rivaling that given to a sitting president.” Coming after the strange security snafu in Dallas last week, it sounds a little like the lady fox protesting too much in the henhouse....
