Rosebud #140

Once again Rosebud has her finger on the pulse, and maybe some other sensitive areas too; in February, in the wake of the Scooter Libby scandal, we questioned whether the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney might not be an appropriate move at this juncture (see Rosebud #73).

Now a new poll, at www.americanresearchgroup.com, finds that 54% of Americans want the Congress to begin impeachment precedings against the sly-faced V.P. That includes 76% of Democrats, 17% of Republicans, and 51% of Independents.

House Resolution 333, Articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney, was introduced by Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio in April. (See www.kucinich.house.gov/UploadedFiles/int3.pdf.) As of late June, 14 members of Congress had signed on to H.R. 333.

"Cheney is impeachable for his overweening power and his sneering contempt of the Constitution and the rule of law," Bruce Fein wrote in "Impeach Cheney," at www.slate.com/id/2169292/, on June 27, an excellent piece for a run-down of the vice president's general offensiveness. (As my grandma used to say, "crooked as a dog's hind leg.")

When Rosebud called for the resignation of former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld (in Rosebud #6, in August, 2006), it was a done deal less than three months later—and a big surprise too.
