A round-up of interesting things in last week's New York Times: News that the Pentagon, after an exhaustive study, found absolutely no connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda received a three-inch box on about page A-20.
The Times discovered that Obama's white mother was a hippie-headed "wanderer" with a great "influence" on him, and ran a ten-inch picture of her looking like the waitress at a macrobiotics restaurant—the biggest single photograph I have ever seen in the paper.
Eliot Spitzer's call girl was treated with kid gloves and great sympathy. Pathos, even.
Today's "Week in Review" blares, "Five Years." We're talking Iraq. No end to the bloodshed in sight, says the Times, with a swell of melancholy NPR chords. Business as usual.
