Rosebud #173
Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr., a former intern to Bill Clinton and President of the Hip Hop Caucus, was jumped and arrested by a throng of D.C. cops while waiting outside the Petraeus hearing on September 10. Watch the video at www.hiphopcaucus.org. Yearwood is being charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. But as you can see from the video evidence, he does not resist arrest, nor does he assault a police officer. He does questions his arrest—unsurprisingly enough—since he is not violating any laws at the time of it. He was also injured during this infuriating display of police brutality. Watch the video of Yearwood telling his story at www.afterdowningstreet.org/downloads/betrayusreport.htm (he is standing with Iraq war vet-turned-anti-war-activist Adam Kokesh). As anti-war protest becomes increasingly bolder, so will the Bush administration's suppression of dissent. Beware of future laws, like the one proposed by in New York, prohibiting videotaping in public spaces by ordinary citizens.
