Rosebud #162
Even Sheriff Andy Taylor knew government surveillance was wrong, "violating one of our most sacred rights, of privacy," as he explained to a wiretapping little Opie in this clip:

But not the American Congress.
"It was appalling," said today's New York Times, "to watch over the last few days as Congress—now led by Democrats—caved in to yet another unnecessary and dangerous expansion of President Bush's powers, this time to spy on Americans in violations of basic constiutional rights...
"But mostly, the spectacle left us wondering what the Democrats—especially their feckless Senate leaders—plan to do with their majority in Congress if they are too scared of Republican campaign ads to use it to protect the Constitution and restrain an out-of-control president."
Rosebud has been wondering the same thing for months, while reporting on the growing People's Impeachment Movement and calling for the Congress to listen to the people. But now...
Well, on the side of a building on my block in the East Village there's some graffiti calling for "REVOLUTION RIGHT FUCKING NOW"—which isn't exactly sounding like the scrawlings of hipster madmen, at this point, now, is it?
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."
